AFTER THE COUNTY’S LEAP PIPELINE MORATORIUM VOTE
Just a couple of additional pieces after Tippecanoe County commissioners voted Monday for a nine-month moratorium on high-volume wells and large water transfers, both shots across the bow of Indiana Economic Development Corp. plans to take water from Tippecanoe County and ship it to massive developments in the LEAP District in Boone County:
IEDC reaction: The IEDC hasn’t backed away from its contention that the county’s move was fruitless, in the midst of an ongoing water study to see whether the aquifer along the Wabash River in western Tippecanoe County is robust enough to supply the LEAP District near Lebanon and other communities in central Indiana. After the initial commissioners’ vote on Nov. 20, IEDC spokeswoman Erin Sweitzer labeled the move as one meant to “stoke further rhetoric and misinformation” when county officials knew that no large wells would be installed in the next nine months.
