State Sen. Spencer Deery, after prevailing in an extended recount in the May Republican primary, faces a rematch with Democrat David Sanders, along with independent candidate Joshua Brant in Senate District 23.
Deery, in his first four-year term in the Indiana Senate, won by three votes over Republican challenger Paula Copenhaver, in a recount that wound up before the Indiana Supreme Court. Sanders, who teaches biology at Purdue and is a West Lafayette City Council member, was the Democratic candidate in Deery’s first run for the Indiana Senate in 2022. Brant is a veteran and small business consultant in Lafayette.
Indiana Senate District 23 includes six counties, spreading from West Lafayette to Vermillion County to the southwest.
