5 arrested in attempted murder of Judge Meyer at his Lafayette home, LPD says
Their connections to the crime aren’t immediately clear. Police say more information will come in upcoming days.
Five people, including three from Lafayette, have been arrested in connection with the attempted murder of a Tippecanoe County judge and his wife Sunday in an attack at their Lafayette home, Lafayette police reported Thursday night.
Details about what led a multi-state investigation to the suspects into the attack on Superior Court 2 Judge Steve Meyer and Kim Meyer wasn’t immediately clear.
Lafayette Police Sgt. Matt Santerre said more information would come later about their connections to the crime.
Among those arrested were:
Raylen Ferguson, 38, Lexington, Kentucky, on suspicion of attempted murder, conspiracy to commit murder, aggrevated battery, battery resulting in serious bodily injury, battery by means of a deadly weapon, intimidation with a deadly weapon, attempted obstruction of justice and a gang enhancement.
Thomas Moss, 43, Lafayette, on suspicion of attempted murder, conspiracy to commit murder, aggrevated battery, battery resulting in serious bodily injury, battery by means of a deadly weapon, intimidation with a deadly weapon, attempted obstruction of justice, and gang and firearms enhancements. He also faced charges of being an habitual offender.
Blake Smith, 32, Lafayette, on suspicion of attempted murder, conspiracy to commit murder, aggrevated battery, battery resulting in serious bodily injury, battery by means of a deadly weapon, intimidation with a deadly weapon, assisting a criminal by providing a deadly weapon and gang and firearms enhancements. He also faced charges of being an habitual offender.
Amanda Milsap, 45, Lafayette, on suspicion of bribery and obstruction of justice.
Zenada Greer, 61, Lexington, Kentucky, on suspicion of assisting a criminal and obstruction of justice.
Where the five suspects were being held Thursday night wasn’t immediately clear. They were not listed in the roster at Tippecanoe County Jail, as of 11:30 p.m. Thursday.
Police said Thursday night that the arrests came during a manhunt that included local and state police agencies, the FBI, the U.S. Marshals Service and police departments in Lexington, Kentucky, and Allentown, Pennsylvania.
Lafayette police say they responded at 2:17 p.m. Sunday to a report of a shot fired at the Meyers’ home in the Saw Mill Run subdivision off South Fourth Street. Police have released little information about the circumstances of the shooting, beyond saying they found shell casings at the Meyers’ front door. Initial descriptions relayed to the first officers mentioned someone who’d come to the door, telling them that he’d found their dog.
Steve Meyer is recovering with wounds to his left arm, which Kim Meyer told BiL earlier this week would require a long rehab. Kim Meyer was treated for wounds to her hip and released from a hospital Sunday evening.
Meyer has been judge in Tippecanoe Superior Court 2 for the past 12 years, hearing cases ranging from divorces to murders and other felonies. Meyer, a Democrat, announced in December that he did not plan to run for a third term in 2026.
