Democratic ballots in Tippecanoe Co primary will ask voters to pick up to 56 of 80 candidates to be delegates to party’s state convention. Some say it’s a swing against ‘gatekeeping' by party insiders
It is good to see so many more persons openly running for the State Democratic Convention. Also good to see many more candidates on the Democratic side for County Offices. This may well be a big year for local Democrats.
Another step in getting Tippecanoe County government healthier with a legitimate two-party system. Long overdue. Really intelligent folks now running Wabash Township government causing that part of the county to realize its obligations to provide decent fire protection and all other township services.
The other was more confused and often got in her own way. Both rather sad choices made by supposeldy well-informed voters. Currently several Tippecanoe County townships have competent, honest, and, in some cases, exemplary public servants. You can pick your own favorites and the ones you believe are falling short.
Mixed feelings on this approach for the state Democratic Party. On the one hand I think the state party could use some shaking up, and it's good to challenge the anointing of a candidate. On the other hand I worry about what happens if a party has no gatekeepers? Graham Platner (and his Nazi tattoo) in Maine is one example, and in Nebraska there's a MAGA pastor running as a Democrat in a race for reasons that will help the Republican candidate.
So, is there some mechanism in place that would prevent, say, a local member of Turning Point USA or some other MAGA running and taking advantage of a low-turnout environment and getting selected as a delegate so they could go cause trouble at the convention?
Best of luck to the candidates. I think there are some really great candidates on this slate -- and a few stinkers. I note a few WL school board folks on the list -- planning to scale up their weird politics?
Best wishes for the throng on the D ballot, do not just vote alphabetically as there are some good folks near the end. I will hold my nose the entire time I am voting for Spencer Deery. Y'all, the mailers I get from his opponent remind me of all the crazypants things that just need to stop.
Seems like Deery has some funds, though. Is there a normie Republican PAC out there?

Sure hope they are a lot better than a couple Township Trustees we elected in the past.

One clearly was dishonest and stole.

That "openly" makes me a little sad.

The grass root delegate approach is how the Republicans got Morales and Beckwith.
Yeah. Yikes.
