A Lafayette firefighter’s procession
Lafayette paused along the funeral route and firefighters across the region pitched in as LFD honored one of their own
Lafayette paid tribute Saturday to Sgt. John Robinson, a Lafayette firefighter who died of a medical emergency while on shift earlier this week at Fire Station No. 9. Robinson had served with the Lafayette Fire Department for 29 years.
After visitation and services at Lafayette Jefferson High School, dozens of fire trucks and emergency vehicles escorted Robinson past the fire station on the eastern edge of the city and winding along Veterans Memorial Parkway and up U.S. 231 on the way to the IOOF Cemetery in Brookston.
This was the scene from the Elston Road overpass at U.S. 231, where drivers stopped for the procession passing below.
In a different sort of tribute, firefighters from across Tippecanoe County and the region came to town to staff shifts Saturday at Lafayette’s fire stations. Just a few examples here, from Buck Creek to Whitestown, Westfield to West Point.

Nice feature, here, from J&C reporter Sam King on Saturday at McCutcheon High School, where 200 kids clamored for spots in the Braden Smith Youth Camp. Read it here: “NIL the way it's supposed to be: Purdue basketball's Braden Smith camp gives back.”
Indianapolis Star reporter Karl Schneider reported on how federal funding cuts through the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration has closed the Purdue-based Midwest Regional Climate Center, one of six such centers around the U.S. providing data, tools and services on climate impacts. The center served nine Midwest states, providing users with information to make decisions on agriculture, energy systems, human health and urban planning. Here’s more: “Federal cuts shutter Purdue University's regional climate center.”

DODG's 20-something incels MAGAts once again prove their outright ignorance and idiocy in closing down a weather data center.
How large will the handbasket need to be as they collectively go to hell?
This is the America I love. Not the cruelty and hate coming out of the Trump administration. I was brought to tears of thankfulness watching this amazing outpouring of humanity in response to a life of service and care. This is the America I want for my grandchildren.
