A roof over the Lafayette Farmers Market?
That’s among the ideas floated in an upcoming study of the stretch of North Fifth Street that hosts the farmers market each Saturday in downtown Lafayette.
This week, the Lafayette Redevelopment Commission hired design firm MKSK to look at the layout of blocks of North Fifth Street between Columbia and Ferry streets and whether an investment in the streetscape and surrounding areas could “improve the market experience for vendors and visitors alike.”
The contract for initial landscape architectural and engineering services was approved for up to $39,000.
From a description laid out for the Lafayette Redevelopment Commission this week: “The study will examine both curb and curbless configurations to provide for greater flexibility as a festival and gathering space, with a primary emphasis on the Lafayette Farmers Market. Site amenities, including the presence of an overhead structure as cover for vendors and as a programmable space, will be studied along with the configuration of parking and travel lanes.”
