A TEMPORARY FIX FOR NINTH AND KOSSUTH
Lafayette crews will pull up buckling pavers and lay down fresh pavement, starting Friday afternoon, at the Ninth and Kossuth street intersection, the city announced this week.
Persistent drainage issues at the top of the Ninth Street Hill have made for a rough rides of anyone navigating the intersection, particularly in the past year.
Jeromy Grenard, Lafayette’s city engineer, said the project will include removing all the pavers and a couple of inches of the stone beneath them, compacting and leveling the remaining stone and paving it with six inches of asphalt, some of which will be pervious, meaning it will allow water to drain through.
The city lists the intersection as closing at 3 p.m. Friday, Oct. 16, with plans to reopen it the following day, depending on any weather-related delays in construction.
Grenard said the work this week will be a temporary fix until the intersection is included in a larger storm sewer project expected to happen in 2028.
