DELPHI MURDER TRIAL PUSHED BACK TO OCTOBER
Attorneys for Richard Allen, the Delphi man charged with murder in the killings of teens Abby Williams and Libby German, pulled their request for a speedy trial Tuesday, telling a judge the felt they were being crimped on time to present their case in the three weeks that had been allotted to start May 13. The hearing, held in Allen County instead of Carroll County, was intended to go through scheduling matters and motions dealing with what words and phrases the prosecutor wants to bar from the trial. The session wound up with a new trial start date in October, with a series of pretrial hearings scheduled later in May. It also ended with Allen’s attorney again asking for Judge Fran Gull to step down from the case. UPPER MAIN BECOMES A DORA, A CARRYOUT DRINK EXPLORER FOR LAFAYETTE
A plan to allow carryout drinks from designated bars and restaurants in one block of Upper Main Street in downtown Lafayette was unanimously approved Monday night by the Lafayette City Council.
As they did, another brewer just down the street was asking the city to bring the rest of downtown into the mix. And Lafayette officials were saying they were inclined to do that after testing the city’s first Designated Outdoor Refreshment Area in the 1000 block of Main Street.
