CHIANG: PURDUE’S AI GRADUATION REQUIREMENT COMING TOGETHER, JUST PART OF UNIVERSITY’S CHALLENGE
Days after Purdue announced it planned to develop a graduation standard built around the ability to work with artificial intelligence, Purdue President Mung Chiang told faculty that the university would have to be ready to keep up with changes in a rapidly developing field.
Chiang announced the concept of the graduation requirement Nov. 13 during an AI summit hosted by Purdue and Google in Indianapolis.
Last week, Chiang told faculty members on the University Senate that Purdue’s approach to pressing and long-term AI challenges would come from several directions.
The first would be looking at ways to help grads who are facing a job market that shows more companies are reporting cuts or have stopped recruiting for positions that can be replaced by AI functions.
