Anti-‘woke’ LSC board member gets earful as he's sworn in

Chuck Hockema, a new Lafayette school board member who ran in November on a platform of stopping what he called LGBTQ and other “woke” indoctrination in schools, was sworn in Monday and promptly got an earful from a capacity crowd at Lafayette School Corp.’s Hiatt Center.
“They didn’t use my name,” Hockema said after his first meeting on the LSC board. “But everyone knew, I would think, who they were talking about.”
LGBTQ allies gave long ovations to one speaker after another who encouraged LSC leaders to do what they could not to let segments of teachers, staff and students be marginalized, after Hockema promised that he’d check up on classrooms and libraries for signs of gay, lesbian and transgender advocacy in the schools.
