CITIES, COUNTY WILL MAKE A BID FOR ‘SURPLUS’ HALLECK FEDERAL BUILDING

Lafayette, along with West Lafayette and Tippecanoe County, will make a bid to buy the Halleck Federal Building, after federal officials declared the facility at the corner of Fourth and Ferry streets as surplus in March, a city official confirmed Wednesday.

Dennis Carson, Lafayette’s economic development director, said city and county officials met in the past week and agreed to pursue the facility that opened in 1932, before an April 10 deadline the U.S. General Services Administration set three weeks ago for governmental bodies to step up before the building went on the market.
