DAYTON PONDERS NEXT MOVE, AS LAFAYETTE SAYS IT’S WILLING TO ANNEX LAND NEARBY

The pleas and the protests didn’t get Dayton town officials very far Monday night, as the Lafayette City Council gave an initial, unanimous OK to bring 132 acres along Haggerty Lane into the city.

Town council members from Dayton, a town of 1,500 just east of Interstate 65, told Lafayette City Council members that the two industrially zoned parcels owned by the Carr Family Farm would be a minor pickup for the city, but would be a huge blow for Dayton’s future.

Their pitch: The council could reject the voluntary annexation request from the Carr Family. The council didn’t buy it, setting the wheels in motion for a final vote likely to come in July.

 “Nothing but a bunch of bull,” Ron Koehler, a Dayton Town Council member, said as he walked out after the Lafayette City Council’s 8-0 vote. “The decision’s made, and it’s been made. … They’re about to stomp all over Dayton, and they don’t care.”
