DAYTON TOWN COUNCIL BACK IN FLUX WITH PRESIDENT’S RESIGNATION

Add another layer to the ongoing drama in Dayton, the town of 1,500 bordering Lafayette to the east: Two months after being elected, Dayton Town Council President Joy Tischer will resign, as of Friday, March 1.

In a letter delivered to county and town officials late last week, Tischer wrote that she was moving from Dayton, after being elected to a town council in a contentious race in November.

“Personal reasons require me to relocate, leaving me unable to continue my services to the council,” Tischer wrote in a letter dated Feb. 22. “I am confident that the Dayton Town Council will continue to thrive under the new and capable leadership.”

Tischer did not immediately respond to messages for further comment.

“That’s news to me but can’t say I’m at all surprised,” Cindy Marsh said. Marsh, wife of former town council member Ron Koehler, had challenged the candidacy of Tischer and others running on a group of candidates looking to tip control of the town council.

“She was put there for one purpose, and she fulfilled her obligation,” Marsh said. “She never had any interest in or commitment to Dayton. A major con job was pulled on the town, and too many people didn’t vote for the con not to work.”
