Months after Sgt. Preston’s of the North made its exit as a dining/night stop mainstay for decades in the John Purdue Block building, new details and concept drawings emerged Thursday for a plan to redevelop the stretch of Second Street, between the Wabash River bridges, in downtown Lafayette.
Plans shown to the Lafayette Redevelopment Commission include a renovated John Purdue Block building backed by a new, six-story complex that would include a mix of studio and one- and two-bedroom apartments, first-floor commercial space and two floors of parking.
In all, the proposed $56.9 million project would include 157 apartment units, along with a rooftop pool and other amenities, aimed for the growing residential downtown Lafayette market.
