DEVELOPER TAPS BRAKES AT PURDUE’S PROVENANCE AS HOMEOWNERS BALK AT REZONE

After facing blowback from homeowners at Provenance – a residential subdivision in Purdue’s live-work-play Discovery Park District on campus’ western edge – developers have hit pause on a plan to refigure the neighborhood with a batch of apartments instead of owner-occupied homes initially approved.

Justin Moffett, founder of Carmel-based Old Town Design Group, said the firm asked West Lafayette to hold off for at least a month on considering a request to rezone nearly 10 acres of the $130 million Provenance planned development started five years ago along Airport Road.

The change, already recommended on a 10-5 vote by the Area Plan Commission Aug. 20, would allow developers to build up to 197 units of brownstone-style apartments and townhouses instead of 88 single-family houses and townhomes initially laid out in phases 3 through 5 of the eight-phase development.
