Will Lafayette City Council issue a statement that calls hen ownership within city limits "pivotal" to Lafayette? The stakes aren't quite as high, but, a boy can dream.

📢 Breaking News: Greater Lafayette Chamber of Commerce supports commerce at all costs.

No risk is too big. No subsidy is too small.

(It would be fascinating to know what businesses the GLC hasn't supported. Maybe this is in the Indiana room at the Library.)

They kind of put it right out there in their name, right? You would hardly expect McDonalds to promote veganism. A visit to the GLC office leaves no doubt about the identities of their big clients/supporters/stakeholders. It is entirely understandable that they would be eager to add SK Hynix to their pokémon deck.

THANKS, Greater Lafayette Commerce!!!

During decades in corporate America, I was always wary of the 'jump on the bandwagon" for the new product or policy rollouts.

That said, after careful study, I've concluded the pros of opening the way for this development that will put our city on the cutting edge of technology far outweigh the cons.

Hopefully, a majority of the City Council members will not be swayed by the NIMBY ostriches' cons shilling panic and fear with their "Heavy Industry" signs.

I find it interesting that the new NIMBY signage has subtly eliminated "toxic" and now rely entirely on simply: "Heavy Industry."

Perhaps they are also fearful of Steppenwolf's controversial lyrics in "Born to be Wild"

"...I like smoke and lightning

heavy metal thunder

racin' with the wind

and the feelin' that I'm under..."

So, would NIMBYs be against:

a) "smoke" (could be the pot - or exhaust from a motorcycle --- either way. cue the vapors)

b) "lightning" (dangerous God created spark of electricity)

c) " heavy metal thunder" (bikers - bad!)

d) "feeling...under" (again, the pot, not so much being under a motorcycle)

e) all of the above

As the kids would offer, "just sayin'"

Who doesn't like Born to be Wild?

The pros are obvious. What do you see as the cons, Christopher?

Zach,

I came of age when the song was released. I do find it interesting that the music was straight ahead rock-blues, yet the term "heavy metal" was then applied to the hair bands a half-generation later that were more loud than "thoughtful."

As offered by Nigel Tufnel of "Spinal Tap".

I personally have no issue with the lyrics...I am suggesting NIMBYs would have a problem with those lyrics I listed.

Nice! It is a classic song. One of our kids enjoys "heavy metal", the classic variety (e.g. Black Sabbath).

Spinal Tap is magical, too.

For the pros/cons question, I was referring the SK hynix. You had said: " I've concluded the pros of opening the way for this development that will put our city on the cutting edge of technology far outweigh the cons."

I was asking what you see as the cons are for the development.

Good ask, Z.

First --- if one listens to the first B.S. album, it was not much different from the "prog" albums coming out at that time. Perhaps a lot more bass tones to give off an Edgar Allen Poe vibe. ;-)

I'm old enough to have learned in my lifetime that there's no such animal as "no downside," promises are made and lessons learned.

Having worked in the institutional investment field for decades, our mantra in has been "long-term, long-term, long-term." A policy is created for a client's needs and concerns, yet is not deviated from because of short-term blips in the market.

While the ratio of stock/bond/cash remains in place the diversification within that ratio will be adjusted.

That said, the con I consider is that there are science-oriented issues of which I have no understanding. The one that stands out is the NIMBY-based allegations that Eugene, Oregon's experience with SK was leaving behind tons of toxins.

In speaking with Mayor Easter at the most recent meeting at the Wellness Center, she assured me that there will be required tighter controls. The requisite city, county and state agencies will be involved in the monitoring the facility.

Thanks, Christopher. So much here to respond to. I will later this evening or tomorrow. Ha! Look for the edit.

I suggest that supporters of the new factory stylize the longer word HYnix ("hi!") and opponents hyNIX. Kind of a Gulf of Mexico filter.
