I would submit that Mr. Hockema is not forward thinking enough to even imagine the world these children are going to live in. Information is faster than it’s ever been... critical thinking is vital for them to survive.

I don't want to live in a nanny state. Why does Hockema want to impose HIS NANNY state on the rest of us? It's the parent's responsibility to monitor what their children are doing and reading. My kids went to Jeff. They were raised in a social justice family, they got along with ALL their teachers, because I insisted on them being respectful to their elders. Okay, I had to bribe my oldest with 5 Grateful Dead tee shirts to play nice with his very conservative teacher. You wear your statement and YOU show respect in class. He did. My point is that IF YOU as parents are involved in YOUR children's lives, NOBODY is going to corrupt them, change their moral compass, blah, blah, blah. Mr. Hockema wants a nanny state because apparently HIS family doesn't want to bother to teach their children their values. This is a democracy, there are many values. Raise your children and respect the separation of church and state. Don't blame the school system for YOUR lack of parenting, Mr. Hockema. Teaching YOUR children YOUR values is YOUR job, not the school's. Their job is to teach the 3 R's and to socialize our children to live in a DEMOCRACY.

I really don’t understand the advantage to outsourcing employment in the case of the crossing guards. I know that it’s a trend to contract out our school subs and cafeteria staff. If I look at open payrolls dot com it shows just under $7k a year in 2021 for a crossing guard salary. This company is getting $79 per day x 180 days or $14k per crossing guard. I’m sure the extra money will NOT be passed on to the employees.
