With Gov. Eric Holcomb’s economic development trip to semiconductor capitals in Taiwan and South Korea taking on such a Purdue flair – interim engineering dean Mark Lundstrom is there now, President-elect Mung Chiang will be there soon – the question posed shortly after the governor landed stands:

Should we be waiting for the next big shoe to drop at Purdue’s Discovery Park District in West Lafayette?

Purdue is coming off announced plans in July for a $1.8 billion semiconductor research and manufacturing plant for U.S.-based SkyWater Technology in the university’s Discovery Park District, on the western fringes of campus. Earlier in the summer, the state and Purdue announced a partnership with Taiwan-based MediaTek – a partnership that will put a chip design research center in the Discovery Park District.

Monday night in Greater Lafayette/Tuesday morning in Taipei, Holcomb took a few minutes of questions about the potential for any other Purdue-centric prospects brewing this week.

Question: Purdue President Mitch Daniels mentioned last week that more big announcements were coming for Purdue’s Discovery Park District. Soon, he said. Are we going to hear that from you this week?
