Thanks to our Reps Campbell and Klinker and Senator Deery who gave this the consideration that bullying and manipulation deserve. Kudos to them for their courage.

“I am very disappointed that a small group of misguided state senators have partnered with Democrats to reject this opportunity"

Dude, that 'small group' is a majority of the GOP caucus in the senate. You got your ass kicked on this one.

Also, there's no way Donald Trump will actually be spending his summer trying to unseat state senators in Indiana. For one thing, actual congressional races will be far more pressing for the GOP next summer. For another, he's lazy as hell. So, he's just throwing a toddler tantrum as usual.

He could send his masked secret police to Indianapolis. Or he can act on his usual 13-year-old emotions and start having his minions harrass those senators with fake bomb threats and domestic violence accusations. The sooner the Orange Con Man goes the way of Charlie Manson and Jim Jones, the better off we will be as a nation. I just fear it's too late to heal the wounds of division.

13-year old, Ken??

You are giving Mad King Darn'old of Dementia-Felonia way too much maturity.

All reasonable concerns. My hunch is that MAGA doesn't have much of an attention span and they become easily bored, so they'll move onto the next manufactured reason to be outraged. The narcissist-in-chief can for sure hold a grudge, but with his dementia there's every likelihood he'll have forgotten all this by the weekend.

Hallelujah! Those maps were unbelievable. Thank you Senator Deery for holding your ground and others senators who voted against it.

So glad our state Senators voted with integrity. Gerrymandering voting districts should be illegal. I will NOT be voting for Alting again. Whatever his reasons for voting yes, his reasoning is flawed. He was not representing his constituents on this one.

Acting is spineless for seeing no benefit in redistricting, yet still voting for redistricting.

I hope Sen. Alting enjoys his final days in Indianapolis. Was it worth it to sell out your principles and the district you represent on the hopes that maybe your extreme right-wing opponent would back off?

Time to vote Alting out of the Indiana house. How dare he vote to deny Hoosiers a fair and decent election? And what about fair representation? Why should the folks in the region be denied representation? Alting needs to go. Indiana deserves better than a weak worm who kisses the hand of the Orange King.

Given how discolored Trump’s hand is, kissing it is probably a bad idea

I am so disappointed in Sen Alting. He did not even bother to try and justify his vote. And then no comment to the press? Senator Alting and I differ politically. In the past, I have voted for him because I thought he is a stand up honest politician. The few times I met him in person, I liked the way he listened. But, here in the twilight of his career, he chooses the Washington Insiders over his local constituents. So sad.

Whether you are Democrat or Republican the way those maps were drawn were not in the best interest of Tippecanoe County dividing school districts, just for one example

Yes, the entire state would have ended up without representation. Even where communities weren’t divided, the area of each district was so spread out, that no Rep could have effectively supported their entire district. Many decisions that would help one part would be at the expense of another.

In my time as Police Chief, I was honored to serve on the Board of Directors for the Indiana Association of Chiefs of Police. I had many roles over the years, but one was the Chair of our Legislative Committee. There, we worked with state leaders to ensure law enforcement needs and concerns were being addressed and that our voice was heard at the statehouse. This sometimes required difficult discussions, particularly when it came to legislation that would adversely impact public safety. This role also afforded me the unique opportunity to travel to Washington, DC. There, I testified before House and Senate Committees on issues such as reauthorizing the JJDPA (which provides funding for important local juvenile justice programs) and concerns about larger, heavier trucks on our nation's - and state - highways. It was an informative experience. I learned how the "sausage" was made and a lot about the people who made it.

The job of our legislators is not easy. It requires the ability to sort and prioritize incoming data and information every day. It is a role that requires high intelligence and high EQ. Sadly, this is not always what we get, and we get what we vote for.

We got what we voted for in Sen. Deery. Whether you agreed with him or not, he is one of the few legislative members who clearly articulated his position. He removed the noise and spoke to the issue, and most importantly, he provided a clear and public expression of his opinion and how he formulated it. He is a deep thinker, and he looked beyond the short-term objective of redistricting to the longer-term implications of this legislation. He made a calculated decision about what was right, not what was convenient.

It wasn't long ago that he authored a bill that drew attacks from the left (SB 202). Many of the same people are praising him today, but they ridiculed him for that bill and others. He didn't shy away from the critique; he just communicated his reasoning, did what he said he was going to do, and explained his why.

Personally, I don't expect our legislators to get it "right" on every effort. After all, building consensus on complex legislation is not easy and sometimes requires concessions. What I do expect is that they make decisions that are in the best interest of all Hooisers, regardless of the emotions of political parties. Honor and integrity are essential, and you can never lose your honor by staying true to your beliefs. That requires courage, and there are few people at our statehouse these days who put these ethics into action.

We need more leaders like Sen. Deery.

Senator Deery did us proud. It wasn't just the right vote, but the statesmanlike leadership and articulation of reasons for his position.

I would love to see the entire state support the Republican senators who voted against this bill, in the event that they are primaried. You can still support the Democratic candidate in the general, but don’t let Trump, Braun and Associates (what a name for a political firm) do their threatened damage to the reps who stood up for their constituents, the Constitution, and good government.

Alting once again proved in this major politically philosophical vote his reality of being a MAGAT political hack posing in Mitch Danielsesque clothing.

Alting's tenure has astutely offered marginal old-timey Dick Lugar Republicanism, but ultimately could not overcome the Siren-song-demand from Mad King Darn'old of Dementia-Felonia.

Ironically, while selling his political soul, he will still be primaried by a more MAGAT monkey.

As his political-God would say, "Sad!"
