No court dates set, though justices agree to expedited schedule after Sen. Spencer Deery appealed decisions by Indiana Recount Commission that gave challenger Paula Copenhaver the primary victory.
One would hope that the Indiana Supreme Court will rule in Sen. Deery's favor. It's not the voter's fault if some clerk mishandles their ballot. If there ever was a case of rigging the system and cherry picking, it's this one. Shame on Copenhaver for being such a cheat.
Wait…. The Reply Briefs aren’t due until the 24th but the election has to be certified by the 21st. Even if they rule for Deery can the certified results be changed?
Hello, Cindy. I had similar thoughts. I was working with the 21st as the deadline, but in Deery's Emergency Motion, he has September 4th as the first date.
I suppose the Court’s decision will at least set the precedent for future elections. If they let the Election Board’s decision stand, election-denying MAGA election officials can create all kinds of chaos going forward.
Agreed. And, regardless of the outcome, I easily see some bills being proposed in the next session of the Indiana General Assembly addressing this very question.
It will be a case to watch. I am still very curious about the post 21st deadline and how that plays into any ballot changes.
