Prosecutors in the neglect charges against Michael and Kristine Barnett – accused of leaving their adopted daughter in a Lafayette apartment after legally changing her age and then heading to Canada – took a hit late last week, when the Indiana Supreme Court declined to take the case.
In an order signed Thursday, the Indiana Supreme Court indicated a 3-2 vote among the justices, with Chief Justice Loretta Rush and Justice Mark Massa voting to grant the state’s petition to transfer jurisdiction to the state’s high court.
It’s one more twist in a case that covers nearly a decade of twists, leading up to criminal charges in Tippecanoe County that drew national attention.
