JUDGE CASTS DOUBT ON REQUEST FOR SPECIAL PROSECUTOR IN JUDGE MEYER SHOOTING CASE

A judge sounded skeptical Tuesday about the prospects of bringing in a special prosecutor for the case of Thomas Moss, a Lafayette man at the center of an alleged plot that led to the attempted murder of Tippecanoe County Superior Court Judge Steve Meyer and his wife, Kim.

Though, Cass County Superior Court 2 Judge Lisa Swaim held off on a motion from Moss – one of four charged with attempted murder and more than 10 other felonies in connection with the Jan. 18 shooting of the Meyers at their Lafayette home – to move a trial scheduled to start May 6 out of Tippecanoe County.

Meanwhile, an afternoon of hearings in Cass County included some final prep ahead of jury selection next week in the trial of Amanda Milsap, a Lafayette mental health therapist and Moss’ former wife, accused of playing a role in a larger scheme to scuttle a jury trial her ex-husband faced in Judge Meyer’s court two days after the shooting.

Here were scenes from Tuesday’s hearings.

For Thomas Moss

On a motion for a special prosecutor: After Moss’ arrest and charges, his court-appointed attorneys, Andrew Baldwin and Michael Cunningham, filed a motion for a special prosecutor, saying the Tippecanoe County Prosecutor Pat Harrington had asked for one in other cases involving judges or personnel who worked in the courthouse.
