COUNTY’S JUVENILE DETENTION CENTER PLANNING ON HOLD OVER UNCERTAINTY ON PROPERTY TAX REFORM, TARIFFS
Planning for a juvenile detention center just south of the Tippecanoe County Jail was put on pause Monday morning, with county commissioners pulling back to wait out questions about property tax reform proposals in the General Assembly, federal funding doubts and uncertainty on construction prices due to tariffs.
“This is just a thing where we have to be fiscally responsible,” Commissioner David Byers said Monday. “Do we think it would be a great benefit building a juvenile center? Yes. At the same time, we just don’t know so many things.”
