Oh, senator young what a cowardly disappointment you are. You kow tow when your loyal bloody supporters would never let you down. But then again maybe you will when the Indiana voters have had enough of Elon musk running our government. Then you will understand shame!

Let me just tack on one more “Do and Don’t” for garbage day on behalf of my USPS co-workers. If your mailbox is on the curb, please put your toters a good 15 feet away from it! USPS is going to be rolling out new delivery vehicles that have a sonar sensor in the bumper that automatically brakes the vehicle hard when it detects an object it will collide with. Trash day is already a pain for your carrier to maneuver around and it will become even more challenging.

Good advice! One question - will this apply to snowbanks, too? I know that we should clear the space in front of the mailbox, but is there a number of feet before & after the box that need to be cleared? Thank you!

I wasn’t sure if stubstack allows links in the comments but there’s a little printed form that usps hands out. It also is going to depend on your carrier too. We actually have 2 different union contracts. Rural carriers are not required to dismount for a blocked box they can’t reach safely. City carriers are paid by the hour so it’s up to them if they feel they can get out safely to a blocked box.

Thank you! I’m going to post this to our neighborhood FB page when snow comes again. I think people are pretty good about the bins (except for allowing space between their bins). But I regularly see snow not being cleared. USPS carriers work hard, and we need to do our part. Parts of the nearby neighborhood actually have some mailboxes up on the house rather than the street, so they already have extra work on those areas.

Isn't Musk part of the vast, unelected bureaucracy? It's so awesome that he and his employees have access to our govt data including social security info! What could go wrong?

If Todd Young is in good graces with Musk, that solidifies my view of him as a horrible representative.

I can tell you that most of the renters along my alleyway completely ignore the recycling label on one bin. It's all trash. I hope the city can deal with that in some way.

Also, I will NOT be bagging my trash in plastic. Not. Ever.

One thing that seems to be unknown by folks is that if you have city trash service and your totter breaks, you can call the sanitation department and they will fix it free of charge. It is not well stated that they will do this on their website though. That would be a small item that they could clarify on an updated webpage.

Kudos to Lafayette City Council for cleaning up the trash ordinance. Trash in the Old Jeff Neighborhood is a nuisance. Trash blows from open totters left continuously at the street edge.

It looks horrible and is delux dining for vermin. The new ordinance does not allow this. Without enforcement the new ordinance procedures are just pixels on a screen.

Sounds like they are mandating the use of plastic bags for trash placed inside the container?

Sure sounds like it. I will not be doing that.

What do you put your trash in?

Paper grocery bags. I don't eat animal products, so there are no bones or grease or anything like that.
