Lafayette, WL clip rise of Airbnb houses in neighborhoods

Zoning change will prevent new short-term rentals in Lafayette, West Lafayette and much of Tippecanoe County’s single-family residential areas.

After more than a year of pushback from neighborhoods and city and school officials looking preserve housing stock, particularly near Purdue’s campus, Lafayette, West Lafayette and Tippecanoe County agreed to stop the proliferation of Airbnb-style house rentals in single-family neighborhoods.

A new zoning code covering Lafayette, West Lafayette and unincorporated parts of the county will take decisions about short-term rental applications out of the hands of the Board of Zoning Appeals and simply ban new Airbnb and Vrbo transient guest houses in single-family residential areas.
