LEVELING OUT THOSE MANHOLES ON YOUR DRIVE
When I try to explain to the uninitiated what the Based in Lafayette reporting project is all about, this bit of news about manhole covers is what we’re talking about.
Lafayette on Tuesday morning agreed to spend $164,250 to refit 73 manholes on Ninth Street, 18th Street and other main thoroughfares so they’re flush with the pavement, rather than sunken hazards that have drivers weaving their way through the daily commute.
“That’s one of our major complaints – that and railroad tracks,” Jeromy Grenard, Lafayette’s city engineer, said. “We don’t have any control over the railroad tracks. But we can fix these.”
