The last two days heading into spring break had Lafayette teachers on edge, after fielding notes from their principals to make a list of books used in their classrooms, at the request of LSC school board member Chuck Hockema.

On Friday, Superintendent Les Huddle confirmed that the survey had gone out this week for books used for whole group instruction, not necessarily books checked out at the library or on shelves of classrooms for individual reading.

And Hockema, who was elected to the LSC school board in November on a promise to figure out whether classrooms featured LGBTQ themes or other forms of what he called indoctrination, said he’d made the request for the list in recent weeks.
