Lafayette school board member Chuck Hockema, elected in 2022 on a platform of looking to wipe out what he considered “woke” ideologies in the district’s classrooms, took new swings this week at his critics, posting a public missive that compared those empathetic with the LGBTQ community with “child groomers” and “dung” on the bottom of a shoe.
Hockema – who in his first year on the board has called for reviews of school libraries and classroom materials to root out anything he considered part of an LGBTQ agenda – said this week he was getting weary being a target of public comment sections of board meetings and not being able to answer back.
