LSC TEACHERS: BACK PAY, PLEASE, FOR SCHEDULE CHANGES WITHOUT NEW CONTRACTS
Lafayette school administrators told the school board Monday that after a rough start to the year with a new three-tier bus schedules and class start times, things have evened out through the first three weeks of the year.
At this point, things are down to fine tuning on routes to get all buses to and from school on the new schedules, Brandon Hawkins, Lafayette School Corp. human resources director, said.
“For the most part, we’ve fixed a lot of the issues we had in that first week or so,” Hawkins said, recalling opening days when some buses were running more than an hour behind when delivering students home at the end of the day.
“Anytime you change a system with that many different pieces, there's going to be some bumps,” Hawkins said. “There’s different opinions about it, but we had to do something major to address this (bus) driver shortage.”
The review of improving on-time rates for buses under a schedule that revamped start times and the length of the instructional day at every LSC school didn’t do much to soothe lingering frustrations among teachers.
