I see I'm not the first to pipe up but it's gross that Chiang took the retention bonus. He's Northwestern's problem now. They needed to make peace with the MAGA regime and Chiang brings his "serenity" to Evanston. Succeeding Daniels in the way he did with no search and the bonus both reflect poorly on the trustees.

Lemme see... A pay raise to move to a private Big10 university, flush with cash, in a major metropolitan area, with no more fights with a Christian Nationalist legislature micromanaging every decision. Hmmm. I'm guessing Chiang said "When do I start? Will Monday work?"

All fine points, but given the retention bonus terms, I am guessing the reply was more like ‘Does 12:01am on July 1 work?’

And takes one more step toward his eventual destination of helming an Ivy or Stanford/MIT level university.

Nice note, but not worth half a million bucks.

Mung's first-day message to the Northwestern "Wildcats Family" (??) has all the raw thrills and definitely-not-a-robot energy he brought to WL: "Starting in my very first quarters, I am eager to hear from you: 'What do you imagine in your Purple?'

"Indeed, in the coming months, my priority is not to make many new announcements but to visit with and listen to you while the myriad operations of this complex organization carry on each day."

Sounds like a guy with no plan other than to let factions there fight it out.

Hello fellow Bangertites. I'm sill in California for sad reasons, but keeping up with goings on there. If only for stability, I think it's fortuitous that Purdue has the most recent university president available to take the helm for a short stretch.
