MORE CHANGES FOR ROBINSON STREET AFTER CRASH KILLS PURDUE STUDENT

Temporary no parking signs went up Monday along West Lafayette’s Robinson Street in what was another phase of the city answering neighborhood concerns about safety along the stretch between North River Road and Salisbury Street.

Ben Anderson, West Lafayette’s public works director, said his department asked to clear parking to let crews paint extended yellow curbs at intersections.

Anderson said the work was expected to have been done by the end of Tuesday. He said the move came after meetings with neighbors, who lobbied to restrict some on-street parking to help with sight lines when pulling onto Robinson Street from New Chauncey Neighborhood streets.

The move also comes after the city lowered the speed limit on Robinson Street from 30 mph to 25 mph in late September, a day after neighbors pushed the city’s traffic commission to do something in the wake of a Sept. 1 crash that killed a Purdue graduate student.
