NEIGHBORS BALK AS COMMISSIONERS HINT AT ‘YES’ VOTE ON SOUTH RIVER ROAD REZONING

As Tippecanoe County commissioners agreed with a developer’s request to put off a rezoning hearing for 22 acres along South River Roads for a second consecutive time, the call for “all those in favor” drew a resounding, “Nay,” from a dozen or so neighbors who’d come to the County Office Building on a Monday morning to speak against the project.

They filed out of the Tippecanoe Room, waiting for the commissioners’ meeting to end so they could go back in to have their say before a rezoning request from Trinitas Development LLC, a Lafayette-based firm, comes back to commissioners June 5.

Gathered around Commissioner Tom Murtaugh, neighbors ticked off a host of reasons they said qualified the request for denial, leaving the property zoned for heavy industrial use instead of a residential zoning fit for a development of single-family homes, duplexes and apartments.
