NO INDICTMENT FOR LAFAYETTE WOMAN ACCUSED OF THREATENING TO KILL TRUMP

A federal grand jury declined to indict Nathalie Jones, a 50-year-old Lafayette woman arrested and charged in Washington, D.C., in August with making threats to kill President Donald Trump, her attorney said in a filing this week in U.S. District Court.

In court documents, Mary Petras, an assistant federal public attorney, asked the court to release Jones, who has been at her New York City apartment on home detention for the past week after being released from federal custody since her Aug. 16 arrest.

“A grand jury has now found no probable cause to indict Ms. Jones on the charged offenses,” Petras wrote in Monday’s filing. “Given that finding, the weight of the evidence is weak. The government may intend to try again to obtain an indictment, but the evidence has not changed and no indictment is likely.”

In a statement to the Associated Press, U.S. Attorney Jeanine Pirro blasted the development as “the essence of a politicized jury.”
