No Kings, Round 3, Saturday: A Q&A
Plus, how about that Sweet 16 win for the Boilers. Where Tippecanoe County stands in latest population estimates. And more.

Support for Based in Lafayette also comes from Purdue Convocations, presenting Beetlejuice on Thursday, April 9. Based on Tim Burton’s dearly beloved film, this hilarious musical tells the story of Lydia Deetz, a strange and unusual teenager whose whole life changes when she meets a recently deceased couple and a demon with a thing for stripes. And under its uproarious surface (six feet under, to be exact), it’s a remarkably touching show about family, love, and making the most of every Day-O! First off, have your nerves settled back in after Thursday night’s last-second, 79-77 win by Purdue over Texas to advance to the Elite Eight. What a game.
I liked this breakdown from Mike Carmin, writing from San Jose for his Greater Lafayette Sports Report, opening with that last play: “Trey Kaufman-Renn had just made the biggest play of his college career, and the fifth-year senior immediately sprinted to the other end of the court. That’s experience showing up. That’s being locked in until the final buzzer. That’s leadership. That’s where 146 games help. Instincts took over after Kaufman-Renn made the game-winner on Thursday night as the second-seeded Boilermakers outlasted No. 11 seed Texas 79-77 inside the SAP Center. Purdue faces top-seeded Arizona in Saturday’s West Region final with a trip to the Final Four at stake. The Longhorns had one more chance. As Jordon Pope, who scored 29 points on a broken foot, launched a three-quarters court heave, Kaufman-Renn followed the ball’s path in the air as it hit the top of the backboard. He was standing all alone as the ball caromed out of harm’s way before his teammates mobbed him.”

NO KINGS, ROUND 3, ON SATURDAY: A Q&A
Streets will be closed near the Tippecanoe County Courthouse Saturday afternoon for the next “No Kings” march, the third held locally – including ones in June and October 2025 – and one of 60 in communities across Indiana. More than 3,000 events have been mapped across the country, according to organizers.
Locally, permit applications filed by host Greater Lafayette Indivisible put crowd estimates at 4,000. While numbers have always been a source of contention, Lisa Dullum, an organizer with Indivisible and a Tippecanoe County Council member, said progressive groups expect the turnout to be bigger than the first two.

Other events in surrounding counties are slated in Delphi, in Frankfort and in Crawfordsville.
Here’s a conversation ahead of Saturday’s march and the community fair that follows.
