PARENTS ARRESTED, CHARGED AFTER THEIR 1-YEAR-OLD WAS SHOT, KILLED BY 5-YEAR-OLD BROTHER IN MARCH
The parents of a 1-year-old boy who was shot and killed by a 5-year-old brother in a Lafayette apartment in March were arrested Monday and charged in connection with their son’s death.
Deonta Johnson, 27, and Shatia Welch, 24, were arrested Monday afternoon after a traffic stop in LaPorte, Lafayette police said Tuesday.
Tuesday morning, charges filed by the Tippecanoe County prosecutor late last week against the pair were unsealed, including neglect of a dependent resulting in the death of the child the coroner’s office identified as Isiah Johnson, who was 16 months old.
The court documents offer an account of how investigators pieced together what happened in the apartment the afternoon of March 28.
