PLAN FOR 11-ACRE DEVELOPMENT EMERGES BETWEEN SOUTH RIVER ROAD AND TAPAWINGO DRIVE
Trinitas Ventures, a Lafayette-based developer, is planning an 11-acre, mixed-use, 960-unit project that would be the biggest so far in West Lafayette’s refigured downtown area, based on initial plans filed late last week.
The District at Tapawingo would include a series of five- and six-story mixed-use buildings situated around a new public street grid between Tapawingo Drive and South River Road, according to details submitted to the Area Plan Commission.
The development would sit behind the River Market Apartments, a Speedway gas station and the Hampton Inn, all along State Street, offering what city officials say would be a gateway to West Lafayette at the roundabout for Tapawingo, South River Road and Williams Street.
“This is a great fit,” Jen Van Schuyver, West Lafayette’s redevelopment director, said Monday. “We knew we wanted to look at a whole master plan development for that area. We’ve been talking with them for nearly two years, working through some of the details. … We’re just excited about the project.”
