Back A Boiler sounds remarkably like a refreshingly modern approach to indentured servitude.

Maybe now that the CFPD is cracking down on the way these programs are marketed, Purdue will replace the header on the ISA that says "THIS IS NOT A LOAN" with the more forthright "THIS IS AN INDENTURE."

The funniest thing about Back A Boiler is that, six years since its creation, this groundbreaking, brilliantly innovative, game-changing effort to revolutionize the way in which students pay for college has issued only 1600 ISAs, and, as best I can tell, has spawned no similar sorts of programs anywhere else. Given that roughly 40,000 students have enrolled at Purdue during that period, I can understand Daniels not wanting to be interviewed about the program. By any reasonable metric, the program is a dud.

Of course Back A Boiler is classic Daniels: Steal an old, unsuccessful idea, repackage it as bold policy innovation intended primarily to burnish his reputation as a bold policy innovator, and then withdraw into a cone of silence as the whole thing fizzles out.
