PURDUE, GOOGLE AGREE ON AI TOOLS FOR ALL STUDENTS, CAMPUS

Coming off moves earlier in December to make the campus among the first with an AI competency graduation requirement, Purdue trustees agreed Tuesday to a deal with Google that will roll out a suite of artificial intelligence software for all students and faculty and offer storage and security tools for the university’s research.

University officials said the deal goes beyond off-the-shelf AI products for Google, a company that joined the university in November in a partnership to collaborate closely on AI research and teaching.

“This is a true strategic partnership,” Dimitri Peroulis, Purdue’s senior vice president for partnerships, told Purdue trustees Tuesday afternoon. “It is not simply an agreement to buy some resources or tools or services, but rather to bring the two partners together and significantly benefit, I think, Purdue’s position in the emerging AI era.”
