REPUBLICANS START TO LINE UP TO REPLACE ALTING IF HE WINS INDIANA SENATE DISTRICT 22

Names of Republicans in Tippecanoe and Carroll counties are stacking up as possibilities to replace state Sen. Ron Alting, days after he announced he’d resign if he wins re-election to an eighth term in Senate District 22 amid allegations of shoplifting and admissions about “concerning changes” in judgment and cognitive function.

So far, the lineup includes Alting’s opponent from a rugged Republican primary in May, a Carroll County commissioner and a member of Gov. Mike Braun’s administration, along with others saying they’re considering it, depending on how things go in Indiana Senate District 22 on Election Night Nov. 3.

“I’m sure there will be more,” Dale Seward, Carroll County Republican Party chairman, said.

Meanwhile, Natasha Baker, the Battle Ground Democrat in the race, was highlighting the uncertainty of a Republican caucus process – “Who would that person be? What do they believe?” she asked – as she ramped up her campaign, including an influx of large contributions reported in the past week.
