RESIDENTIAL ZONING OK’D FOR SHUTTERED WEST LAFAYETTE COUNTRY CLUB

The former West Lafayette Golf and Country Club was rezoned for residential use on Monday, with Tippecanoe County commissioners calling housing the best use for the land just west of West Lafayette now that owners say there’s no chance to make the links work there anymore.

But commissioners said a plan to put 309 high-density single-family homes on 66 acres near U.S. 52 and County Road 300 West wasn’t guaranteed, given persistent drainage problems that had neighbors protesting the rezoning request.

“If (drainage) can’t be dealt with, then it can’t be developed, plain and simple,” Commissioner Tom Murtaugh said before a 3-0 vote. “And that’s going to be a very, very complicated process.”
