For all the hand-wringing about downtown developments, I will take a block of dense housing with ground-floor commercial and way more beds than parking spaces any day over the ugly, generic sprawl that makes Sagamore and South St feel like one big highway rest stop.
Oh I don't doubt those items you brought up. In the 80's and 90's we had tons of retail and strip malls go up. Since e-commerce came in, many places went under and we are still dealing with that glut. I just wish we could get ahead of the curve so that we don't repeat past mistakes with low quality developments that only create dead end employment.
