SAFE ZONE MEASURE FOR TRANSGENDER COMMUNITY GOING TO WEST LAFAYETTE CITY COUNCIL MONDAY

A proposal designed to be a statement that West Lafayette backs members of the community who are transgender will go before the city council Monday evening.

The resolution aims “to protect individuals seeking gender affirming health care” and comes a month after members and allies of the LGTBQ community lobbied the city council to make West Lafayette a sort of safe zone.

“Our main goal is just to make sure that this community that is feeling very threatened and very scared, that they feel not so threatened or scared because they have a city that supports them,” Kathy Parker, a city council member sponsoring the resolution, said Tuesday. “So, I hope that will be the message that is conveyed.”
