Site plan for SK hynix plant revealed, as drainage plans OK’d
South Korean company gets approval for drainage, has not publicly announced groundbreaking timeline for $3.87 billion semiconductor facility.
Contractors working with SK hynix received final site and paving plans through the Tippecanoe County Drainage Board Wednesday morning, picking up a key permitting step before construction starts on a $3.87 billion semiconductor facility in West Lafayette.
A groundbreaking date and construction schedule weren’t offered as a representative for Foresite Group outlined plans for retention ponds and tying into existing drains away from the 133-acre site north of Kalberer Road, between Yeager Road and County Road 50 West/Salisbury Street.
SK hynix officials did not immediately respond Wednesday about when things might get rolling at the site. SK hynix received approval from the County Drainage Board in September to start grading and leveling dirt on the property, but officials with the South Korean company said at the time that heavy equipment works wasn’t imminent as they continued to gather permits from other governmental checkpoints.
At the time, they said: “SK hynix will continue to comply with relevant laws and be transparent to the public with regard to the construction plan following discussions with the authorities.”
But Wednesday’s hearing included a closer look than previously available about the layout of an R&D and manufacturing facility where SK hynix expects to assemble high-bandwidth memory chips for use in a growing AI market.
