A Q&A with the head of CHIPS Communities United, a national coalition monitoring the rollout of a CHIPS Act-era landscape … including a rezoning fight now playing in West Lafayette
- "We support building things, you just need to do [arbitrary and unrealistic list of permitting hoops to jump through]
- "Just put it over here!" *gestures at area with even more nearby residents, but they're students and renters so their opinions aren't important*
- Ralph Nader mention
- Direct quote: "I would not want it in my backyard."
- David vs Goliath metaphor
I support appropriate environmental reviews because companies will use every possible opportunity to cut costs and that often manifests in inadequate safety measures, but this seems like a national organization of people who have made careers out of obstructionism and rent-seeking.
- "Trust us. Just trust us. No. No, we won't provide any means to verify what we say."
- Non-public, private, unaccountable non-profits supporting the development (PRF, GLC, IEDC)
- Public officials mantra, "Have you seen the jobs it will bring to the community!?"
- "All of your current questions will be answered after you approve our rezone."
- "This will be good in the short term. Long term? Next question."
- "Right place, right time, right company" justification
- Direct quote: "An opportunity like this will never exist again."

I support comprehensive and thorough environmental data upfront, to inform the decisions we make as a community. That bar has not been met in the case of this proposal. Leaving SK hynix aside, what do we know about the safety and environmental impact of their suppliers they want to have in Site A?
"One person's obstructionism is another person's thoughtful analysis and vetting."
I think back to BiL’s April 2 post about Lt Gov Beckwith’s $88,000 Tahoe, and Sec of State Morales’s $90,000 Yukon paid by taxpayers… I think you have your answer
Many of the responses were " I can't answer that" followed by a random listing of worst case possibilities.
Noted a similer situation with no actual details except another random listing of issues that concern them.
Sorry, no substance there- unfortunatly the headline makes it sound like the group found a smoking gun detailing why the projectc should not happen. People are forgetting its happening anyway. The water and air pollution issues being trotted out with no justification are a smoke screen.
Saw the headline and assumed the David in question was Sanders. Oops!
Ha! He's been mostly quiet in the last few weeks of the media blitz.

what do you mean by the term rent-seeking?
Slimming the budget according to our legislators in Indianapolis. Will our legislators take a major pay cut? Or is that out of bounds?

Why is the space/location that was proposed for Sky Water not being considered for SK Hynix?
Hello Maeve. What I heard at yesterday's too-short of a panel event is that the site was not large enough.
