STOP THE WATER STEAL BOOTS FOUNDER, ALLEGATIONS FLOW
Internal strife, apparently brewing for months, over the direction and control of one group trying to coalesce opposition against the state’s LEAP pipeline concept bubbled to the surface Monday, playing out in a series of potshots and accusations lodged on social media.
David Sanders, a West Lafayette City Council member who helped found Stop the Water Steal, went public Monday on Facebook and NextDoor, calling out one of the organization’s leaders who he contended “had seized control of all of the assets of the organization and thereby paralyzed” a Tippecanoe County-based effort formed in fall 2023.
Sandra Alvillar, listed as president of Stop the Water Steal, shot back Monday, saying that Sanders was using the group to grandstand, touting himself even after she and other leaders of the group asked him to step away nearly a month ago.
