Rep. Matt Commons joins push for redistricting in Indiana. Two candidates emerge for WL City Council vacancy. Next set of Wabash River development plans expected this week. And more.
Commons would be right at home in Russia, where they hold sham elections that are then referenced to reinforce their rigged system.
Commons is afraid to let voters vote. Why is he afraid, if his policies are in line with the voters? He blames Biden for Indiana's problems. Republicans have been in charge of this state for many years now. Own your failures.
The definition of a democracy is that people have representation in their government. Full stop. This is gerrymandering, which is not a new concept, but it is new to be outwardly celebrated and administered by the politicians in power. We have unbiased methods to draw voting districts, and these should be applied. That is true redistricting reform.
And if we are honest, this true reform - the unbiased, scientific determination of voting districts - should be applied across the board, red and blue states alike. Illinois, Texas, California, and Indiana alike. Let the voters have representation.
In Indiana, 40% voted for Harris, 58% for Trump. Yet Matt Commons will vote to make 100% of Indiana US House Districts Republican majority districts, with Democrats having zero chance of winning even in majority Democrat areas of Indianapolis and Lake County. It's not Newsom's fault, or Biden's fault or the will of the good rural voters of District 13. It's a blatant Republican power grab. It's Matt Commons representing Trump first and his constituents second. If the districts are left as they are, Republicans are likely to lose seats and control of the US House in the 2026 midterms - and they know it. Trump and his unpopular policies are to blame, nobody else. He and his MAGA Republican allies have resorted to cheating because they won't win on the merits. Matt Commons has a Purdue degree in Social Studies Education. Such a smart guy should be advocating fair and representative bipartisan redistricting nationwide. It's a shame he has chosen to rip up our democracy by the roots instead. What the hell Matt?
No one who works at Purdue should be on the city council, Purdue represents the trend of changing small communities from places where people live into corporate sectors of economic growth where everyone is a number and the only thing that matters is the number in that numbers bank account.
Also Commons is a corn fed fool, the rural folks are too easily fooled by slick JD Vance type posers who say the right buzzwords and pander to their way of life while doing all they can IRL to ruin it.
It shouldn’t matter who the councilor’s employer is, if they aren’t participating as their employer’s rep. Especially with a district so close to Purdue, it’s likely that some people who want to serve their community in this way will be Purdue employees.
Besides which, many faculty and staff have very different viewpoints from the administration. I don’t think we need to worry about any undue influence.
I think what Purdue has long term done to the community is slowly change the landscape of affordability to edge out everyone who can’t afford life in their vicinity. You can look at it and call it change over time, but their encroachment into town affairs was strongly challenged by city government in the 1980s/1990s for a reason. Now we are stuck in their hell, so Purdue is responsible for our towns issues to a fair degree.
That being said, I’m not going to make a blanket statement on whether Purdue employees drink the Purdue koolaid, but I do think they’ve shown multiple times, including this year with the Exponent, that they are willing to punish people who do things they don’t like.
I’m not saying every Purdue employee is guilty by association, but I’d prefer folks on the city governing council who don’t take money from them for a livelihood.
How about we just abolish this system? Just do popular vote, or RCV, really just anything other than what we're doing right now. It's clearly not working.

Rep Commons can go stick his rural conservative Hoosier values where the monkey put the peanut.
