Congrats on a successful and peaceful protest not just in Lafayette, but across the country. I haven’t seen a single report of vandalism or bad behavior, and let’s be honest: if there had been, conservative media would’ve been playing it on loop.

I’m no fan of the Trump administration, but when debating the president and his policies, I do my best to stick to substance. I’ll argue tariffs, immigration reform, or tax cuts all day long. What I won’t do is resort to cheap shots about appearance (presidents weight, skin color, family). That’s why it’s so disheartening to see the actual president post a video depicting himself as a king dropping feces on peaceful citizens.

How am I supposed to engage in good-faith policy debate with someone who tells me and millions of others that if we’re Democrats, we’re terrorists? Criminals? “Shit”?

In my lifetime, I’ve never seen a president so openly and crudely encourage division among Americans.

Which brings me to the WL police officer playing drums. I’ll admit, I came to the comments expecting people to complain that the song was anti-war. I could even imagine some folks being angry if it had been a song associated with right-wing rallies (YMCA? Lee Greenwood? Who knows). But for a moment, none of that mattered.

I loved it. To me, that’s community policing done right. A human moment. A shared beat. Hopefully we can all agree on that much.

A friend shared a screenshot telling of the Exponent assistance to the IU paper last night. Today he was told it was "fake news"

That's similar today to all the posts on the internet claiming the crowd photos from the No Kings rallies around the country were fake news- AI generated.

Many saying the photos are fake because the leaves on the trees are green and it's late October. lol

That's funny how many people were complaining that the streets around downtown Lafayette were blocked off for the useless protest. They were so inconvenienced for the two hours and taxpayers shouldn't be paying for the police presence, etc. I guess those same citizens were not aware of Fed government leaders (I stand corrected - it was the CA governor who shut the road down because the two Fed guys who set this up were just going to fire the missiles over the moving traffic) shutting down interstate 5 yesterday between San Diego and LA for 6 hours for some Marine celebration. That is the only route that 10's of thousands can use each day to travel that stretch. I just caught the headline so I asked a family member who lives there and yes, it was true. Each missile being fired costs about a million each.

Cool video of the band at Tapawingo Park.

Proud of the Purdue Exponent. Since outspoken student editor Bill Smoot caused a ruckus in 1968, the Exponent has been an independent newspaper. Today, we have Smoot’s young, shocking-for-the-day words (The Deans’ Bible pages 286-290) to thank for the independence of the Exponent. —Angie

I remember some of the local parents being upset with Smoot. I was too young to know what was going on, but it sounded quite scandalous at the time.

Yes, and he voiced some of his “scandalous” ideas at the picnic for freshman women at Slayter Hill with Dean of Women Helen Schleman in the audience. I wrote of it in my book “The Deans’ Bible: Five Purdue Women and Their Quest for Equality.”

David Reingold is a small man, figuratively and literally. He left a trail of destruction at Purdue and apparently is the hatchet man for the IU administration as well.

The dude had “little man syndrome for real.” Insecure and not pleasant. I can’t think of the name of the lady that was his right hand woman or chief of staff, but she was just as bad

Oh, and of course all president felon can think of is to dump MORE sh!% on the citizens of this country. Well, he's already doing that. That's why we protested.

So true. And - the uncontrolled potty mouth in public settings, his enjoyment of his poop video are signs of his deteriorating mental capacity (I mean in addition to his ongoing confusion and lack of connection to reality that we see every day).

Yeah, I was in the thick of that supposedly "fake" protest. The estimate I heard was about 4000 people who don't want a king.

Hooray for the Exponent (a great source of news for this area) supporting the freedom of the IU press! What a great collaboration. So IU didn't want their homecoming alumn$ to see any possibly negative news, eh? Instead, their heavy hand made sure that MORE alumni knew about their censorship. Good.

The reasons for the No Kings protests, redistricting, and the upset over the treatment of student journalism are worthy topics/conversations for mature, calm people to engage. They are all of a piece, though they appear to be independent issues. It's possible to flip a combat zone into a solution zone. I know that sounds like a motivational poster.
