Ah, Mitch...in the Washington Post article, "The roots of this (supermajorities in most states) phenomenon have been well studied. They include the cultural aggression of elite institutions and the predictable reaction to it, " Cultural aggression? WTH is he talking about? Institutions that honor all races and genders? THEY are not the ones trying to force others to conform to their beliefs. I see cultural aggression from the right, especially here in Indiana.

"The contours of the current system don’t conduce to those outcomes; until that changes, we have to hope for..." How does he propose we change this? I don't disagree that one-party rule is bad. How do we fix this? I'm sure not wasting my time "hoping" that Mike Braun realizes there are Democrats in this state, too.

I thought this analysis was incoherent although I too agree that "trifecta" states (plus Nebraska, I guess) tend to ignore significant constituencies and deviate from the moderate consensus. What he disingenuously ignores is the number of R trifecta states (26 or so, with about half the US population) if SO much larger than the D trifecta states (6 or so, representing 40% of the population), with obvious effects in the Senate and Electoral College. The sleaze, cruelty, cynicism, etc putatively emanating from these places have a pronounced rightward lean.

And as we learned on Veep and then again on Jan 6th, if there's a problem with the Electoral College count, the President is chosen by a vote of state delegations. It's high time we split California into six states and fused the Dakotas.

The Dems continue to try to "play by the rules" and be fair, while the Reps try to consolidate as much power as possible, fair representation be damned. I don't really want the Dems to follow their playbook......but I also don't want this country to continue its downward spiral into fascism.

I don't know that Mayor Daley, Tip O'Neill, or (especially) Lyndon Johnson failed at hardball. I also think history will look on Joe Biden as a tough, effective leader who acted where others (Obama among them) failed to make a hard call when confronting actual fascists like Putin and the Taliban.

Go home Mitch you never belonged here. Some republican said “look at those stupid Hoosiers. That’s a perfect place for you to become governor and shove our super conservative politics down their throats. You have previtized everything that you could in this state and university. You took everything away from Purdue that made us a nice friendly quality educational institution. And you just wanted to run a business. Couldn’t you find a buyer for the whole institution?
