July Friday Night Live with Booze Hounds Bluegrass, 6 p.m. Friday, July 27, Art Museum of Greater Lafayette, 102 S. 10th St., Lafayette — Barney Gumble’s favorite string band will get feet stomping and hands clapping this weekend at the Art Museum of Greater Lafayette. As part of the museum’s Friday night live music series, Booze Hounds is a trio from Noblesville with years of experience gigging around central Indiana. The group led by guitarist/vocalist Eric Lee Reel should receive a warm welcome with our area’s love for American roots music. “Can I see the Booze Hounds?/ Not ‘til Fridaaaayyy.” This event is free but RSVPs are appreciated.
Air Supply with Kyle Bledsoe, 7:30 p.m. Friday, July 27, Loeb Stadium, Columbian Park, 2250 Wallace Ave., Lafayette — Adult contemporary kings Air Supply will softly rock Lafayette, and whether you cranked them for those sing along lovelorn anthems like “All Out of Love,” “Every Woman in the World” or “Making Love Out of Nothing at All” back in the day or from the dozens of movies and TV shows their hits have popped up in since, you know the tunes. While its radio heyday was 40 years ago, “All Out of Love” alone has appeared on an array of shows like “The Boys,” “Young Sheldon” and “The Americans.” The track that features an epic hook by vocalist Russell Hitchcock was even in “Deadpool 2.” Along with co-founder and guitarist Graham Russell, the Aussie duo are still performing around the world as they close in on 50 years together. Catch them this weekend and feel those classic love songs live. Lafayette guitarist Kyle Bledsoe scored the opening slot. $30-$220. Tickets.
Return to Cybertron Rave, 9 p.m. Friday, July 28, Rat Pak Venue, 102 N. Third St., Lafayette — Get out the glowsticks, pacifiers and giant jeans, old school raves will be commemorated and celebrated this weekend in downtown Lafayette. Local dance heroes DJ Powder and DJ Sunn will welcome a trio of beatmakers who will recreate 1990s rave vibes without the small fliers, word of mouth/pay phone reliance and worry of the event getting busted because it was held in an abandoned building. Ah, simpler times. Making a triumphant return will be DJ Steady B, a Lafayette son who went on to mix in Indianapolis and now Austin, Texas. I still remember getting a cassette from him 20-plus years ago and his blend of hip-hop, house and techno is as hot today as it was back in the day. Joining him will be Indianapolis’ Cory James, an accomplished DJ on the air and in the club that began his career spinning drum and bass at parties 26 years ago, and Hugh Jeffner, who’s spun events and clubs big and small in the Circle City. $10 in advance, $15 at the door. Tickets.
Summer on the Square, 9 a.m.-2 p.m. Saturday, July 29, downtown Lafayette — With August fast approaching, it’s difficult to put “back to school” outside of your mind whether you’re a parent, student or a resident who enjoys lighter traffic around Purdue University. But during this last weekend of July, we will embrace summer and local businesses at Summer on the Square, a new gathering of local vendors and food trucks that will serve as a sort of extension of our cherished downtown Lafayette Farmers Market. Booked so far will be local retailers, including Sunflower Print Co., Wild Things Adventures and Rainbow Children Tie Dye. Tacos Mexico and Rollin’ in Dough food trucks will add a dash of deliciousness as we savor the flavor of summertime for at least one more weekend.
Ukrainian Brunch, 9 a.m.-noon Saturday, July 29, John T. Myers Pedestrian Bridge, downtown Lafayette — More Saturday morning deliciousness in downtown Lafayette will come in the form of Ukrainian fruit crepes served from a pop-up stand from Stand with Ukraine Lafayette on the Myers Pedestrian Bridge. The organization wants to maintain awareness of the war still raging in Ukraine and will do so by dishing out culture and traditional food like syrnvky (cheese curd pancakes) and varenyky (dumplings).
