Here, again, with five suggestions for your Greater Lafayette week, it’s …
By Tim Brouk / For Based in Lafayette
Spot Patio Friday with DJs Sinclair Williams, Kyle Robert Paquin, Von and Lilo, 5 p.m. Friday, Aug. 2, The Spot Tavern, 409 S. Fourth St., Lafayette — What happens when you put four Indianapolis DJs on Lafayette’s best patio? You get the last dance party of the summer at The Spot. The Circle City DJs include Kyle Robert Paquin, The Spot’s resident DJ, and his new colleagues Lilo (house and techno), Von (techno) and Sinclair Williams, a purveyor of soca or “soul of calypso” that relies on African and East Indian rhythms. Each DJ will spin an hour outside on the patio and an hour inside The Spot giving party people early and late a chance to dance the summer away. $5.
Life in Idle, Wilmette, Ghoul for a Goblin and Nellie Bly, 7 p.m. Friday, Aug. 2, Eleventh House, 116 N. Third St., Lafayette — For having a Life in Idle, the Dayton, Ohio, alt rockers sure get around playing all over the Midwest. The band will converge upon downtown Lafayette again with Illinois emo acts Wilmette and Ghoul for a Goblin. Purdue University pop-punks Nelly Bly will provide the opening (emotional) support. $10.
Tusk, 7:30 p.m. Friday, Aug. 2, Long Center for the Performing Arts, 111 N. Sixth St., Lafayette — While legendary shawl wearer Stevie Nicks is still touring at 76, Fleetwood Mac’s days ended with the death of Christine McVie, a pillar of the rock group that sold 120 million albums worldwide behind hits like “Don’t Stop,” “Little Lies” and “Hold Me.” Another hit, 1979’s “Tusk,” inspired one of the top Fleetwood Mac tribute bands to form. Since 2008, Tusk has toured the United States keeping the live experience of Fleetwood Mac alive and well. Vocalist Kathy Phillips’ take on Nicks must be seen and heard to be believed as she has the strong vocal chops and one mean shawl twirl. $38. Tickets.
Mound Builders, Stonecutters and Cavalcade, 8 p.m. Friday, Aug. 2, North End Pub, 2100 Elmwood Ave., Lafayette — Midwest, it was nice knowing you. Citizens only have one more day to prepare for the blitzkrieg of metal that will blaze a path from Kalamazoo, Michigan, down to Lafayette and then to Louisville, Kentucky. At the helm will be a trio of riff-spewing death machines waiting to melt faces that dare to witness the sonic slaughter only Michigan’s Cavalcade, Laffy’s own Mound Builders and Louisville’s Stonecutters, who “controls the British crown and keeps the metric system down,” can provide. This hat trick of hate will spare you if you headbang and mosh with all your might. $10.
Vik Pandya with Justin Seymour and T.J. Wharry, 8 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 3, Curley’s, 3269 Teal Road, Lafayette — Young Chicago standup comedian Vik Pandya returns to the area to headline a solid — and hilarious — lineup this weekend. Pandya has appeared on a few TV gigs, and his specials have cracked Billboard and iTunes charts over the years. His “Dry Bar” comedy special, “No Refunds,” received numerous clicks and laughs as well. Pandya last appeared locally at the ill-fated Guac Box/308 on State West Lafayette venue, but with Lafayette comics like Justin Seymour making Lafayette bar Curley’s a viable option for standup comedy, this show should split some sides. Seymour, the hardest working funnyman in town, will open as will T.J. Wharry, who recently relocated to Champaign, Illinois. Wharry said his set will be a “farewell” of sorts, but with Champaign being only 90 minutes away, I’m sure we will be treated to his wry, brilliant material again soon. $10. Tickets.
